MRS Nature Protection Program | Hello Mr’S

MRS Nature Protection Program

[ Foreword ]

In 2013, twelve countries with a range of snow leopards, including China, signed the Bishkek Declaration on the first Global Snow Leopard Conservation Forum held in Bishkek, the capital of Kyrgyzstan. It is a landmark of the protection of the elusive big cat.

At this point, October 23 every year has become the World Snow Leopard Day, also known as International Snow Leopard Day, Global Snow Leopard Day. The “Global Snow Leopard Population and Ecosystem Protection Project” builds consensus among governments, international organizations and civil society, which is an important effort to work together to protect snow leopards and their habitats.

What are we looking for

“What are we looking for”

In 2022, MRS and biodiversity conservation engineers officially launched the flagship biological exploration program of Four Girls Mountain – “What are we looking for”, which lasted for several days.

Four Girls Mountain is a typical alpine canyon landform, and the rivers and gullies in the protection area are distributed in the form of branches, which belong to the upper reaches of the Dadu River of the Yangtze River system. The participation of MRS Brand will provide the best advice and safety guarantee when crossing the water.

According to the national “Principle for Categories and Grades of Nature Reserves”, Four Girls Mountain Nature Reserve is a nature reserve of natural ecosystem type, with the protection of alpine ecosystems as the core.

As a species at the top of the food chain in alpine ecosystems, snow leopards have long been the object of observation dreams for researchers and nature lovers. This is the opportunity only once in a lifetime. What attracts MRS is not only the uniqueness and possible graphic tension of this work, but also the role of humans in the survival of snow leopards.

“It can see you, but you can’t see it”

According to the World Wide Fund for Nature(WWF), snow leopards, as predators, play an important role in the population control and ecological health of wild ungulates and other prey species. The investigation and protection of flagship species will play a positive role in the protection of downstream organisms, ecological environment and biodiversity in the entire scientific research area.

So in the opinion of researchers and MRS Founders, “In fact, the focus of snow leopard work is not to save the species, but how to protect the alpine ecosystem through snow leopards. This is also the value and significance of this search for flagship species.”

“Waiting for the unknown encounter”

During several days of exploration in Four Girls Mountain, from primary forests to alpine meadows, from river valleys to extremely high mountain areas, MRS packrafts played a great role in crossing rivers and alpine lakes. In addition, with the help of MRS team, the research team set up a biodiversity observation site in the core area of the hinterland of the reserve at an altitude of 4,800 meters to explore the species that are found in the area.

Is it possible to get a picture of the king of the snow mountain? The following waiting, only for an unknown encounter.

Hello Mr’S

It’s a wait that spans “years”. MRS once again set out with the scientific research personnel to Four Girls Mountain to investigate and monitor the results.

Fortunately, everyone cheered almost at the same time. A camera tied to a rock captured footage of a snow leopard. It was a picture of a snow leopard on a bright day. A snow leopard is seen arching its back slightly towards the camera as it walks through a corridor of boulders.

It has a stout tail almost as long as its body, which is its signature feature. The sun on one side of the corridor is a little brighter than the surrounding environment, and the white fur and spots of the snow leopard can be clearly seen. And another shot shows its beautiful face. By comparing the markings on the snow leopard photographed by these cameras, it is determined that it is the same snow leopard, and it is also roughly understood the trajectory of his activities.

We named this snow leopard Mr’S.
