MRS Guardians of Nature: International Migratory Bird Day Special

From Mount Siguniang to Urban Wetlands, Your Distance from Birds is More Than “5 Meters”

As an outdoor brand rooted in global exploration, MRS has built a bridge between outdoor adventure and ecological conservation. For nature enthusiasts, every adventure not only seeks to explore the wilderness but also aims to convey the message of protecting nature.

Since 2022, MRS has partnered with the flagship species research team at Mount Siguniang, embarking on an ecological journey of biodiversity – “What Are We Searching For?”. During our expeditions, we captured not only the graceful movements of snow leopards on camera but were also fortunate to encounter the stunning presence of the male and female Green-tailed Pheasant for two consecutive years.

The Green-tailed Pheasant has been listed as a national first-class protected species and is considered vulnerable by the IUCN Red List. Their habitat is restricted to Sichuan and Gansu provinces in China, covering less than 20,000 km², and climate change is causing these habitats to shrink and fragment.

Birds are the silent guardians of nature, and their migrations weave the threads of an ecosystem. However, on the waterways of Luchihe River in Chengdu, Sichuan, MRS kayakers recently witnessed a heartbreaking scene. A bird-catching net spanning several meters across the river was entangling a struggling heron and a dead spotted wood pigeon.

The fine mesh of the net, like a cruel trap, confined these birds in a “feather cocoon.” The kayakers rescued the heron on-site, but could only helplessly watch as the other bird perished.

Every spring, as millions of migratory birds return north, it is also the season for water sports enthusiasts to connect with nature. MRS calls upon all adventurers: when your paddle breaks the water’s surface, please become the protector of these sky travelers.
